Frank (Francis) McCourt`s story is wonderful, horrible, exciting, nerve-wracking and simply gripping. He, as a young boy, experiences the deaths of three of his brothers and sisters. After the family has lived in America for some time, they return to Ireland, their native country. Nevertheless, Frank proves to be persistent and revolting and, by unconventional methods, he brings a certain kind of stability to the family. His father has long gone. Malachy is his name, and he went to England to work there and to bring home money for his children - which never came. Frank`s mother is all alone with him and his little sisters and brothers, and she is, eventually, forced to take some severe measures. The poverty that dominates all of his childhood leads him, after all, to emigrate to America when he is 19. He wants his mother and brothers to follow, but what is going to happen?
