Samir Amin, who was born in Egypt in 1931, has a worldwide reputation as a radical thinker on the changing nature of capitalism, North-South relations, and development theory. He has been director of IDEP (the United Nations African Institute for Planning), director of the Third World Forum in Dakar, Senegal; and a co-founder of the World Forum for Alternatives. Ali El Kenz is professor in sociology at Nantes University, France. The book is translated by Victoria Bawtree.
