A 2nd grade boy named Mihir struggles with understanding mathematics, specifically geometrical shapes. Although the math teacher and his family try to teach him, he remains disinterested in learning the shapes. Then, something unexpected happens. A new classmate arrives at Mihir's school from India. Her name is Maya and she quickly answers all of the questions the teacher asks. Among her activities, she is a talented Bharatanatyam dancer. Maya has many talents that she shares when she is with the class and outside of school. Despite being so smart, she is friendly with all the other children and very polite with her elders. Mihir and Maya become friends quickly because they both enjoy practices from Indian cultures. One day, Mihir sees the girl dancing in gym class. He notices Maya doing a dance that is familiar to him! Maya makes bodily movements that look like the geometric shapes they have been studying in class. Maya was manipulating the fingers on her hand, opening and closing her hands, positioning her arms and legs to form the classic positions of the Bharatanatyam dance! Mihir asked Maya to teach him the dance because he wanted to learn to dance too! The dance lessons began! As he continued in the dance class, geometric shapes seemed to be all around.
