The book series Beihefte zur Zeitschrift für romanische Philologie is among the most renowned publications in Romance Studies. It covers the entire field of Romance linguistics, including the national languages as well as the lesser studied Romance languages. The series publishes high-quality monographs and collected volumes on all areas of linguistic research, on medieval literature and on textual criticism.

This is a study of dual place names along the Germanic-Romance language boundary from the Alps to the English Channel. It represents a contribution to the dating of language change in two languages, to language-boundary research and settlement history in the Franco-German boundary area. It also attempts to fill a gap in traditional toponomastic research, which has so far restricted itself to isolated cases or the consideration of name pairs in smaller areas.
