Irving in Höchstform
Entweder man liebt die Bücher von Irving oder man haßt sie. Skurrile Charaktere und groteske Situationen alles verpackt in einer sehr sprachgewandten Lektüre!
So auch dieser Roman der sich um das Leben der Familie Berry dreht, die im Laufe der Geschichte bis zu drei Hotels besitzt. Mit viel Detailreichtum beschreibt Irving die einzelnen Personen und Situationen, so daß man häufig das Gefühl hat, einfach mittendrin und dabei zu sein - was bei dem unangenehmen Geruch der Pupse des Hundes auch mal weniger schön sein kann!
Wahrscheinlich das beste Buch von John Irving und unbedingt empfehlenswert!
Das englische Original ist für Erwachsene mit besseren Englischkenntnissen geeignet, da sowohl die Dicke des Buches als auch die englische Sprachgewandtheit von Irving teilweise sehr abschreckend auf Anfänger wirken könnten.
