Der Autor lässt abwechselnd zwei Personen in der Ich-Form erzählen: Piper, ein entführtes und gefangen gehaltenes Mädchen, deren Freundin Natasha die Flucht gelingt, und der Psychologe OLoughlin, den die Polizei in einem Mordfall hinzuzieht. Haben die beiden Fälle etwas miteinander zu tun? Die Ich-Form des Romans finde ich äußerst störend, ebenso die Erzählzeit, nämlich das Präsens (The penny drops. Casey looks at me ...). Das Buch wird erst gegen Ende interessant, als es um die Person des Entführers geht, doch ist diese Enthüllung wenig glaubhaft. Enttäuschend.
