Hilaire Belloc (1870-1953) was an Anglo-French writer, historian, poet, and essayist known for his wide-ranging works on politics, religion, history, and literature. Born in France and raised partly in England, Belloc became one of the most prominent literary figures of the early twentieth century.Along with his close friend G. K. Chesterton, Belloc was known for his wit, strong opinions, and distinctive writing style.
