The Captivity of John II, 1356-60

Neil Murphy s book is an important and welcome contribution to the historiography of kingship, royal courts and presentation of the royal image and power in later medieval England and France. (Nicholas A. Gribit, English Historical Review EHR, Vol. 134 (569), 2019)
Murphy s book is a valuable addition to our understanding of the royal image in later-medieval England and France. Murphy offers a more rounded picture of John' s achievements, which will undoubtedly reshape how this important phase in the history of the Valois monarchy is understood for some time to come.
