Russell K. Schutt, Ph. D. , is Professor of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Boston and Lecturer on Sociology in the Department of Psychiatry (Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center) at the Harvard Medical School. His research investigates the relationship between individuals and the social environment, with a particular focus on people with housing, medical and/or legal problems, on the organizations that respond to their needs, and on the influence of individual dispositions and social processes on their behavior and other outcomes. His collaborators have included sociologists, psychologists, and psychiatrists at several institutions, including Massachusetts Mental Health Center/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at the Harvard Medical School, the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, Boston University's Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the Veterans Administration.
