Crystal of My Heart

It was a strange sensation--like falling through a tunnel filled with bizarre lights and sounds. Shades of blue, black, and gray engulfed and caressed her, as if the tunnel were a living thing. She kept falling deeper and deeper into the abyss, not sure if she was awake or caught in some strange dream.

When morning comes, Careen Renolds wakes up in a ditch by the side of the road. She is covered in mud, nearly frozen in her nightshirt, and left without a clue about how she got there--or where "there" is.
