Lewis Carroll was an English writer born on 27 January 1832 in Daresbury, Cheshire, and died on 14 January 1898 in Guildford, Surrey. His real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, under which he published numerous treatises on mathematics and logic. He is best known, however, for his literary works and, to a lesser extent, as one of the leading photographers of the Victorian era. He wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland based on the improvised stories he told to young girls. The work was very well received, prompting the publication of a sequel entitled Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice Found There in 1872.
