Ancient Holy Days, Deeper Faith, Pointing to Jesus
Long before Bethlehem, God was telling the story of Jesus. He told it through sacrifice and blood, through unleavened bread and trumpet blasts, and through worship and meaning-packed ritual.
The major holy days of the Old Testament, from Passover and Firstfruits to the Day of Atonement and Feast of Tabernacles, were never simply cultural traditions. They were God's own previews of the Savior he was sending, woven into the fabric of his people's annual calendar centuries before Jesus arrived.
In this thoughtful and practical devotional, author Peter DeHaan guides readers through each celebration in turn, grounding every reading in Scripture and asking probing questions that point to Jesus and expand faith.
Starting with Leviticus, and drawing from the rest of Scripture, DeHaan shows that the Passover lamb foreshadows the crucifixion, that Jesus stands as the firstfruits of the resurrection, that Pentecost fulfills the Festival of Weeks, and that the Day of Atonement reaches its completion at the cross. Nothing is wasted. Everything connects.
Formatted as five devotional readings per celebration, this book fits naturally into a seven-week study or a straight-through daily reading plan. Each entry includes a focused Scripture passage, honest reflection questions, and a closing prayer.
Whether you are a lifelong believer, a curious newcomer, or someone who has quietly wondered why the Old Testament matters, this book will expand your understanding of Scripture and deepen your love for the Jesus who was hiding there all along.
