Der erste Band der Kultbuchreihe und sowas wie mein zweites zu Hause. Die junge Mary-Ann Singleton kommt nach San Francisco und lernt in einem ]Dating Supermarkt[ den netten schwulen Michael kennen. Über ihn findet sie eine kleine Wohnung in der Barbary Lane 28. Mrs. Madrigal ist die sehr sympathische Vermiterin und nicht die einzige mit einem Geheimnis. Bei der Arbeit lernt sie neue Freunde kennen und verliebt sich. In der Barbary Lane leben auch noch Brian und Mona und dann zieht ein merkwürdiger Mann in die kleine Wohnung ganz oben unter dem Dach. Eine wunderbare Buchreihe. Die Menschen wachsen einem an Herz, man verliebt sich, leidet, lacht laut, vergist Tränen, man bekommt vor lauter Spannung eine Gänsehaut und Mrs. Madrigal wird auch zur eigenen Vermieterin. Ich hoffe meine neue Familie wird auch zu der Ihren.
